QSAN Response to VMware ESXi 7.0 U2 Compatibility Issue in Storage

July 9, 2021

Taipei City, Taiwan – July 9, 2021 – QSAN Technology Inc., an enterprise data storage manufacturer, today has released new firmware as a solution to the VMware 7.0 U2 compatibility issue in storage updated as #2113956 in VMware Knowledge Base. KB #2113956 mentioned that an ESXi host loses connectivity to a VMFS datastore with VAAI ATS. The recommended resolution from VMware is to disable VAAI ATS heartbeat on ALL hosts sharing the datastore where these errors are seen.

QSAN had conducted thorough testing in the lab and concluded that such an issue would lead to data inconsistency which may corrupt data before users are aware of this compatibility issue. The proactive approach from QSAN is to provide a solution from the storage side so the customer can upgrade the firmware on the storage side before upgrading to VMware 7.0 U2. It will prevent this issue while still maintaining the existing environment and all VMware advanced features without interruption.

The solution is added to the new firmware v2.0.1a (and later) for XCubeSAN and XCubeFAS. QSAN strongly recommends users upgrade the QSAN storage systems with the latest firmware before upgrading to VMware 7.0 U2. The firmware is available Here or users can contact QSAN support if more assistance is required.
